Artistic Statement
Kyle Vanderburg draws his inspiration from an eclectic variety of sources and styles. His pieces have a clearly identifying "Kyle Vanderburg" style, stemming from a tendency to mix American styles and his own eclectic taste. He has made use of various tonal vocabularies and serialism, though most of his pieces follow a more neoclassical style. From an overtly instrumental background, most of his pieces have been for small ensemble or solo instrument with piano accompaniment, although his recent works for voice have received great praise among his peers. Vanderburg is consistently looking at new ensembles for which to write, and is looking to expand his compositional palette. He is equally at home as an arranger and as a conductor, and believes in being a well-rounded individual, not only in music, but also in life.
